Manufacturer : LG-Ericsson Model : SMCWBR14S-N4 ASIN : B002ZDGJX2 Price : 0$ See Special Offers Product DescriptionThe Barricade N 150Mbps Wireless Broadband Router (SMCWBR14S-N4) is the perfect all-in-one networking solution for connecting and sharing your high speed cable/xDSL internet connection. Designed for the home, this platform independent multi-functional router combines a 4-port 10/100 LAN switch, 150Mbps Wireless-N access point, NAT firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) and User friendly web-based management interface in one convenient device. The SMCWBR14S-N4 provides better performance than existing 802.11g technology and is fully backwards compatible with existing 802.11b/g products. It supports the latest WPA and WPA2 wireless encryption standards, which prevent unauthorized access to wireless networks and ensure data is secure. The integrated NAT firewall with SPI provides protection from hackers and Denial of Service attacks by analyzing individual data packets, to ensure that only authorized packets are allowed access to the network. Using the Access Control feature parents or network administrators can block certain websites, limit web access based on time or dates, and/or block internet access for applications like P2P utilities or games. Finally, configuration of your internet connection and advanced router functions is made simple and straightforward with the EZ Installation Wizard and intuitive web-based management interface. 28 of 32 people found the following review helpful: Great bang for the buck. This review is from: SMC Barricade N Wireless Broadband Router SMCWBR14S-N4 - Wireless router - 4-port switch - 802.11b/g/n - desktop (Accessory) Great little router, I run it in a mixed wired/wireless N environment and use it to share the Internet between two desktops, a laptop, a netbook, two Nintendo DS, one Nintendo DSI, Xbox 360 and a Wii. I bought it to replace the old SMC G router which I had for years (love the brand, so I stuck with them). Not much else to say, the set up was easy, and I haven't had to do anything else since the initial setup - it just works. Forgot to mention - didnt have to install any software, just like with SMC's other router, just logged into the web server menu and it was ready to go. Like I said, its a no brainer. This review is from: SMC Barricade N Wireless Broadband Router SMCWBR14S-N4 - Wireless router - 4-port switch - 802.11b/g/n - desktop (Accessory) Well I thought I would give this inexpensive router a shot. It arrived quickly and was fairly easy to set-up. The installation CD didn't work for me, so I had to install manually. Manual install is basically like any other router out there. There are a few little quirks, mostly with the wording of things but still easy to figure out. If you have never installed a router on your home network, I probably wouldn't recommend trying to install this one on your own. If you are familiar with other router vendors and how to install them - this one is a bit different, but not too difficult to set-up. Ok so set-up complete, on to get the network up & running. Had a few issues, but may more lie in I have a few older computers with older network cards. After a couple of hours of rebooting my various systems, I was finally able to get everything up & running. Note: all my Win7 systems set-up without any issues. Only had issues with my WinXp systems. Xbox also set-up just fine. So everything was working well for about 4 days, then BAM router starts acting up and not in a little way. It just started continuously rebooting itself and dropping connections along with it. So I was a little disappointed. Being that it's so cheap, I have a feeling it's a little hit or miss if you get a good one. I wanted to just exchange it, but as seeing as it was purchased through one of Amazon's third-party vendors, I could only get a refund. I would of happily just exchanged it in hope of getting a decent one, as signal strength & network speed were good while it lasted. Just sucks it didn't last more than a few days. Every other wireless routers I've ever owned have at least lasted several years. So I'm giving this router only 1 star - even at this low of a price, it needs to last more than a few days. If it was just a year or two - I would of felt like I got my money's worth. 18 of 21 people found the following review helpful: Great little router This review is from: SMC Barricade N Wireless Broadband Router SMCWBR14S-N4 - Wireless router - 4-port switch - 802.11b/g/n - desktop (Accessory) Pros 1) Price. Especially if you're a Comcast customer. You can buy the router for around $30 dollars. But if you order a wireless router from Comcast they will "loan" you this router for $9 dollars shipping. While you do have to return it if you cancel your cable, it still gets you in the door to wireless-n for under $10 bucks. 2) The range is much better than my other 2 routers I own. Dlink dir-655 and Belkin N1. I don't have very far to send the signal, just down one floor and into a shield tv nook. But neither of the other routers could access this location well. The dlink wouldn't connect at all, and required a hawking wireless n extender to connect. The Belkin could connect but got very poor connectivity. Both the Belkin and Dlink with extender showed 300 mb/sec connections... neither had performance that could back it up. Neither of the routers were able to run vnc or inputdirector reliably due to packet loss. 3) Works well in heavy wireless area. There are more than a dozen wireless networks in my location and I have absolutely no problems or interference using the standard channel 1/5 setting. 4) Throughput to htpc in shielded television nook one floor down. dlink dir-655: less than 1 MB/second dlink dir-655 with hawking range extender: 1-3 MB/second with very high interference during peak times belkin n1: 3 MB/second but disconnects often with 10-20% packet loss smc: 7 MB/second with no disconnects and 0 packet loss Cons 1) Installation disk is worthless. Just change your network card ipv4 to 192.168.2.10, subnet 255.255.255.0, and preferred dns server to 192.168.2.1, connect with an cat5 and then type 192.168.2.1 into a browser to admin the unit. U: admin P: smcadmin 2) DHCP is very slow. Wired computers would take 30 seconds or more to get internet access. Wireless would sometimes never get internet access and required a manual connection. While static ip takes 4-5 seconds to connect after rebooting or coming out of sleep. Unlike my belkin and dlink, setting up static ip addresses was a piece of cake and would connect and register about 2 seconds after making the changes. This product makes me want to try the 300 mbit router from smc. But, I'm so happy now with this router than I don't even feel the need to change and possibly be disappointed. Even with the cons, the price and performance still make me rate this 5 stars. Ya get what you pay for... Picked this up cheapo last year. Don't get me wrong, it works as long as you're just running a couple PCs through it. by Raoul doesn't work with verizon dsl If you are not "really " technically inclined, don't buy this P.O.S. Couldn't get it to work with verizon DSL no matter who in India that I talked to. by clockwise Bang for your buck I've been using this router for about two months now and I love it. The house I had just moved into had a wireless router already, but it was using WPA encryption, with a pre-shared key (PSK). I of course could not connect with my laptop. Enter this wonderful zyxel adapter. I purchased it because it was usb, and because of the handy extension and usb stick design. Now, after building my desktop I have it plugged into the back of my desktop with the extension. If I want to use my laptop, I simply disconnect the stick from the stand and plug it into my laptop. It couldn't be easier. As far as the software goes, I don't see anything particularly wrong with the included software. It's not fancy, but it works. The windows wireless manager also works. TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N Broadband Router TEW-631BRP
Manufacturer : TRENDnet Model : TEW-631BRP ASIN : B000IZC2B2 Price : 92.99$ See Special Offers Product DescriptionThe 300Mbps* Wireless N Draft Router incorporates the latest wireless networking technology to increase speed range and reliability of your wireless network. Advanced antenna technology increases wireless data coverage throughout homes and busi-nesses. Increased speed and throughput makes it the perfect solution to fulfill your multimedia needs 30 of 30 people found the following review helpful: Best wireless router ever! BUT MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE the FIRMWARE This review is from: TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N Broadband Router TEW-631BRP (Personal Computers) I've tried dozens of different routers over the last 12-18 months (think of it as a weird hobby). This one has the best range and throughput of any I've tried, even with standard 802.11g client cards. It also has fantastic features, including QoS, dynamic dns, WDS, port forwarding/triggering, static DHCP assignments, etc. etc. The only somewhat negative things I can say are: It has a stupid-looking backlit "wireless router" sign on top (though not as bad as the netgear rotating LEDs); also, the router runs kind of warm. All in all, this was a highly worthwhile upgrade, even from my previous MIMO router. BTW, I get an full 802.11n connection using my dlink wireless card, so interoperability seems good. Edit: There are now THREE different versions of this. Make sure you have the latest version of the firmware. New Edit: As of the 11/2007 (v1.0.3.x) I have been having problems maintaining a steady connection. This seems to be a function of some changes from Atheros (I had the same problem with a Zyxel). I disabled both WISH ("wireless intelligent stream handling") and Wi-Fi protected setup and the problem went away, though this might just be coincidence. 12 of 12 people found the following review helpful: Excellent performance, stability and cost/benefit ratio BUT firmware caveats This review is from: TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N Broadband Router TEW-631BRP (Personal Computers) Pros: Excellent firmware and interface, excellent signal strength, excellent stability, possibly good range (haven't tested the range). Cons: 100 Mbps switch instead of gigabit switch, color of the case? :) In my experience of owning several routers now (Linksys, US Robotics), the software (firmware) that goes with the hardware is of equal importance. For instance, I had to run my previous US Robotics 8054 router with a DLink firmware (they have the same exact hardware and chipsets inside, just branded differently) only to achieve some level of stability with that product. The engineers behind this product seem to have done an excellent job with their (at least the latest 1.0.3.5) firmware coding, because even within extremely RF noisy silicon valley apartment I live in, the Wifi performance and stability (both in G and N modes) is nearly flawless. No drops or reboots for over 2 months of use. Given what it sells for, the cost/benefit ratio is excellent. Update: Enabling Wireless Intelligent Stream Handling (WISH) seems to cause instability with the wireless connection. Since this is a second order problem I think I'll stick to the 631BRP by disabling WISH and hoping for a fix in later firmware. Update: As of F/w 1.0.3.7, wireless disconnects occur because if "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" in "Advanced Settings" is on. Unfortunately, the default setting of this IS on. So in my experience, for wireless stability, this should be turned OFF by the user. This review is from: TRENDnet 300Mbps Wireless N Broadband Router TEW-631BRP (Personal Computers) I had a setup with Linksys WRT54G and Airport Express to get wireless signal everywhere at home. I just replaced it with this router, and the coverage is superior than the past! I am also getting 114mbps data rate on my MacBook Pro. The price for this item was also quite low when compared to other Draft N routers. The only concern I have is if TRENDNet will release a firmware to make it compatible with the 802.11 N spec when that goes final. VERY POWERFUL FOR MY HOME OFFICE!!! Wireless USB Adapter Rangebooster N Draft 802.11N
Manufacturer : D-Link Model : DWA-142 ASIN : B000J5JQKG Price : 89.99$ Last Price : 79.99$(Discount 11.1123458162018% See Special Offers Product DescriptionD-Link RangeBooster N (Draft 802.11n) Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful: Install the latest driver and then use XP's Zero Wireless Utility This review is from: Wireless USB Adapter Rangebooster N Draft 802.11N (Personal Computers) I have the D-Link DIR-655 router (I upgraded from a Netgear FWG114P), and one by one have been upgrading my wireless adapters (almost all Netgear) to D-Link adapters. While the Netgear WG111v2 worked fine and supported WPA2, it's limited to 54G speeds (forget the WG111v1 and WG511--no WPA there). When I saw the DWA-142 selling for less than some of my older adapters I jumped, even though there are more recent adapters from D-Link made specifically for the DIR-655. Here's the deal--properly configure your router, and in the case of the DIR-655 set it to use a bandwidth of 20-40MHz. At the client, install the most recent driver for the DWA-142 (version 130). Connect the adapter, then disable the D-Link Wireless Connection Manager from the Startup folder and use XP's Zero Wireless Utility to configure the DWA-142. Reboot as necessary. Make sure you have matching security codes at the router and the adapter and pay attention to whether it's shared or not, and whether you're using WPA-PSK AES or TKIP (same for WPA2). Be sure to check your PC's SERVICES (services.msi) to make sure you haven't disabled the Zero Wireless Utility and/or any other networking services if you can't get things running. A few notes: the system works MUCH better with WPA encryption than with WEP--signal levels are stronger and speeds are faster. Placement of the adapter is important, so watch your signal on your router's status screen while you move it around. I get a consistent 300Mbps on all machines within a 100' radius through 2 floors and several walls (I do have D-Link's external antenna for the router, but that didn't help all that much). Even at the most distant point--basement to second floor, end to end of the house--I get above 200Mbps since I went to WPA-PSK, even though I have to set the router to N-G mode since some clients still run 54G. Also, some adapters can't see hidden SSIDs (like the WG511), so make your router unhidden until you're finished installing everything. Lastly, while you can leave DHCP on for visiting laptop users, employ fixed IP addresses for permanent PCs on your LAN (wired and wireless). It simply works better. Keep a log and make sure you don't assign more than one machine the same address. This is the most stable setup I've used in nearly 10 years of wireless networking, and I've used everything from Intel's Anypoint to Netgear MA101's, WG121's, WG511's, and so forth. For a notebook with a PCMCIA slot, get the DWA-652 PCMCIA adapter and run it in WPA mode--it simply will not run over 54Mbps with WEP encryption. When I say stable, the router has not locked up ONCE in the months since I installed it, which was not the case when I began overloading the Netgear FWG114P--it caused me to take a trip to the basement once a day (or more). (Disclaimer--I was a Systems Engineer for Novell, Inc. during the Golden Years, which is to say when we OWNED Microsoft in the PC networking market space.) 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful: Works great with D-Link DIR-655 Router A Kid's Review This review is from: Wireless USB Adapter Rangebooster N Draft 802.11N (Personal Computers) Works great with D-Link DIR-655 Router. D-Link Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11g, 54Mbps
Manufacturer : D-Link Model : WUA-1340 ASIN : B000FJJASO Price : 33.48$ See Special Offers Product DescriptionIEEE 802.11b/g USB 2.0 20 of 22 people found the following review helpful: Nice little gem This review is from: D-Link Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11g, 54Mbps (Personal Computers) I like this little gem. I had a PCI wireless card for my desktop that was several years old and no longer supported by the manufacturer. I needed to upgrade, but I wanted a USB wireless adapter this time around. I wanted to get it out from the bottom of my desk so I could a better signal. I had certain requirements for my new purchase. It couldn't cost any more than $45. It had to be USB. And it had to have some sort of USB extention cable or cradle. It had to be reviewed by Windows Vista users. It also had to have excellent reception. I don't have a big house, but there were a lot of walls and electronics near and in between the Access Point and my computer. After searching I found the DLink Wireless G adapater fit the bill. I picked it up for $30 (at least $10 less than local stores). All of the reviews talked about great reception, even indepent review sites. And it had the USB craddle I was looking for. I bought it and got free shipping along with it! What a Deal! I've had this little gem installed for about one month now, I coudn't be happier. It gets great reception. This adapter runs absolutely great with Vista. I am also using the included connection software and it plays very well with Vista. The only downside is the optional craddle. It requires either a direct computer USB port, or a powered USB hub with an external power supply. It draws more mA than a non-powered hub can handle (at least it did on mine). I had to use the power supply on my USB hub to get the craddle to work. This is the only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I highly recommend this product. You will not be disappointed. 11 of 11 people found the following review helpful: Worked with Unbuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) Out of the Box This review is from: D-Link Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11g, 54Mbps (Personal Computers) This is the second D-Link WUA-1340 g USB adapter I have purchased. I was looking for a cheap, USB network adapter that I could use for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and 8.10, and also for use with my Windows XP/Ubuntu dual-boot desktop computers. I am using WEP with my Qwest DSL with a 2-Wire (2700-HG-D) gateway/router/wireless access point. The only thing easier than the Windows installation was the Unbuntu one. It worked, out of the box, without any special configuration. I am not sure if this USB NIC uses different chipsets among model numbers and revisions, but the two devices I have work without a hitch. The range so far seems good to excellent, and I have not experienced any wireless dropouts while doing several large downloads simultaneously (uTorrent, KTorrent and other regular downloads). The exention cable definately make the reception range better, and the stand that the NIC plugs into seems very sturdy. Like many NICs, it does get warm to the touch, which is why it is vented. I am using it with my Dell, Optixplex GX280 and with two generic Ubuntu media servers I built from scratch with P4 Intel motherboards. Hope this helps readers, especially those people who are looking for Linux-friendly, USB network cards. This review is from: D-Link Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter 802.11g, 54Mbps (Personal Computers) I've been using this adapter for over a year without issues. The best thing about it is that is comes with a USB 2.0 cradle that allows you to put the adapter anywhere the cable will reach so you can position it for the best signal. The included software works fine but is redundant if you are running Vista which has generic drivers that will run the adapter perfectly fine without having to install additional software. In answer to some common questions about this router that I read in other reviews or comments on reviews: 1. You don't need to match brands between wireless routers and adapters. Any G-band wireless router can send a signal to any G-band receiver or adapter. You can mix-n-match Linksys, D-link, Buffalo, Netgear, etc. products as much as you like. 2. The adapter works perfectly with Windows Vista, including Vista 64-bit as long as you have SP1 installed (Service Pack 1). 4. The range of this adapter will vary greatly depending on where your wireless router is located and how many walls it needs to send its signal through to reach the location of your computer. Your mileage will certainly vary, but this adapter is better than most I've used and gets a nice strong signal from one side of my house to the other. Overall this D-Link adapter is a great option if you want a USB option instead of a PCI card. It's worked well for over a year and I'm satisfied with it. I hooked the router to the modem and computer and plugged it in - it recognized it immediately and everything was great on he direct connection to our desktop. I then fired up the laptop and it recognized the new router right away - after entering the security password (taped to the side of the router in the box) I was up and running on my laptop through the wireless signal. I have your basic 1000 sq foot above ground ranch. I wanted to see the connection and signal that I would receive in the opposite corner of our finished basement. Took that laptop down there and full strength. I have only had it up and running for about an hour but so far couldn't have been any easier to hook it up an get online. This review is from: Belkin Connect N150 Wireless N Router (Personal Computers) I bought this router to stream Netflix to my TV via a Roku box. It was extremely easy to set up and there were no problems with streaming the videos. I mention this because the first router I bought, a D-Link, simply didn't work for this. After spending about 9 hours talking to about 15 people from Roku, Netflix, D-Link, and AT&T, I finally found someone who knew what the problem was. He said D-Link routers, while not necessarily bad, had certain issues that prevented my Roku box from being able to access Netflix servers. He suggested I buy a Belkin or Linksys and I should have no problem. He was right. It only took a few minutes to install the Belkin with the disc provided, and after doing a factory reset on the Roku box and activating it once again, the videos were streaming with no problem. I didn't have to call tech support once, which for me is unusual. I would like to mention that my router is only about 20 feet from my TV and Roku and I am not set up for HD. For those who need a wider range and want HD, you will probably do better with one of the more high-end models offered by Belkin. But if you just want a good, cheap, basic router to cover a small area, this is the one for you. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful: Simple and Awesome This review is from: Belkin Connect N150 Wireless N Router (Personal Computers) Who knew a router could change your life? My Windows XP based Dell PC recognized the adapter quickly and started working immediately. The PC with the adapter is in a room that is about 50 feet from our router (with 2 walls between)and it has had no problems receiving a very strong signal. One note for new users. The adapter has software for wireless networks that must be used to find and control links to wireless networks. The Windows XP wireless network utility can not be used with this adapter (or at least I have not found a way to use the Windows XP utility). This review is from: IOGEAR Wireless-G High Speed USB 2.0 Adapter GWU523 (Personal Computers) Product 5 star - bad tech support drops the rating to a 3 star. Maybe a two star drop is rough since I'm now running but... First the product - I found software install very easy with strong signal strength picked up from my Linksys router downstairs. My problem - WEP key encryption. I didn't know where to enter my WEP key code on the wireless LAN config tool. Hence I couldn't p/u the web even though I had a strong signal. I couldn't find anything in the install directions. I sent email to Iogear CS with no reply. Phone CS is only Mon-Fri normal business hours. Plus, when I finally was able to call during the week from home, I was on hold for quite some time. But the CS rep who answered was helpful and I was up and running after about 1 minute of tech support. So, here is where you enter your WEP key as I cannot believe I'm the only one with this problem. 1) Open the LAN config tool window. 2) Click more settings. 3) Click change and set encryption to WEP. 4) Then click WEP encryption key setting. 5) Click change set default key to #1, 6) Enter your WEP key value in #1 field. I was logged on immediately. I hope this helps!! Works plug and play with Linux Great product. Works out-of-the-box without any configuration in Ubuntu 10.10, 11.04 and Mint 10 Julia. This review is from: Belkin Play N600 Wireless Dual Band N Router (Personal Computers) For Christmas, one of the gifts I presented to my wife was a new laptop computer. She loved it, however, after a few days she starting complaining that she really needed access to the internet via her laptop, especially once her classes started back up in January. I started searching for options and didn't care for the wireless on-the-go route. I thought $50 a month coupled with a 2 year contact was too expensive and wouldn't even know if it would solve my issue. Then, I started looking at dual band routers and narrowed it down to two, the Belkin N600 and the Netgear N600. Both were made in China and had about the same features. I ended up going with the Belkin because it was on sale for $10 less than the Netgear. I also liked the the slim design and built in stand, whereas the Netgear had a separate stand if you wanted the item to stand vertical instead of laying horizontal. Once home, the installation was extremely easy and I was up and running in less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Upon completion of downloading the latest updates for my wife's laptop, I turned it over to her. She was thrilled and spent the next 3-4 hours on the machine. She never encountered an issue with the connection, and loved being able to access her files and folders from our other desktop computer. The speed at which she was accessing (surfing) the internet was very impressive. We live in a very large house and had no problems with the connection, it performed flawlessly. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and decision to go with the Belkin. It works exactly as advertised and I sincerely believe it is a great dual band router for the money. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: Biggest Piece of crap ever This review is from: Belkin Play N600 Wireless Dual Band N Router (Personal Computers) So i purchased this router 8 months ago.... Month 1: Took three days and many calls to belkin support to setup, cd setup is a joke. After all the calls, i was only able to get 2.4 Ghz band working but not the 5 Ghz. Being a big reason for buying this, not having the 5Ghz band working was a disapointment. Several power cycles, resets, and reconfigs Month 2: All the previous procedures to get the wireless back up were now not working. So, i made another call to belkin. I was treated like an idiot and was told it was my ISP everytime (which it wasnt). I played around with 64 encryption and got my pc to recognize the 2.4ghz network and was able to get my mac to recognize the 5ghz network on WPA which i was happy about since 64 encryption is lacking in security. Things worked for a week then i had to reset and reconfigure this continued for months untill they finally release a firmware update that addressed the issue somewhat. I notice there is a weekly repair setting that was enabled which basically restarted the router weekly. After changing that setting things worked great for a month or so. Untill last week, when it did its stop working thing and this time i could not get the dang thing to connect to the internet. I searched for a new firmware and lo and behold there was one availible. I updated the firmware and things seemed to work ok. But, Apple Tv would not work with airplay sometimes and some ipad app remote features were buggy. then Yesterday i spent 4 hours trying to get the thing to work. nothing. So i went to work with it plugged in and connected to my modem. 6 hours later it just started to work. Makes no sence. I am fed up with the huge piece o crap. DO NOT BUY!!!!!. upon reading other reviews use with MAC is not a good fit. I would totally agree. I never notice a difference in speed between my Mac on the 5 ghz and pc on the 2.4ghz. You would think there would be but nope. If you own a Mac dont be cheap and by something you think will work. Just save hours of hassle and by a Airport extreme. I did, took me 2 mins to setup and my internet speed is blazing. not to mention the Range works across the street on my Iphone. With the belkin router maybe out the front door or 20 feet from router it would not work. Seriously dont buy this router. I now boycott Belkin you should too This review is from: Belkin Play N600 Wireless Dual Band N Router (Personal Computers) This router has buggy software requiring frequent rebooting. As an engineer I have a theory as to why this happens. The software contains memory leaks. The router allocates more and more memory without ever releasing the used memory. Over time the router runs out of memory and requires a reboot. Frankly Belkin needs to take time to fix the problem. But instead of fixing the software, Belkin added a setting called "Self Healing". How it works is you specify a time for the router to automatically reboot itself. So my assumptions are Belkin is well aware of the problem but instead if fixing it simply gave us an unacceptable workaround. This is the last Belkin product I will purchase. Cheap Reliable Router. I had this router for a year. Before this one I had a netgear router that gave me more issues than this router from Belkin. by gabester Replacing Share N 300 I have removed my scathing posts about Belkin and the notorious Share N 300 router I bought only months ago. by Charles E. Smith Belkin Play N 600 wireless dual Band N Router Great little router. Chase Junk! A Nightmare! Don't buy this one. Connect the Alfa AWUS036H to the R36 router and you can share your connection with multiple users (AWUS036H NOT INCLUDED) (Electronics) After returning this unit last year (10/30/2010) due to firmware troubles, I thought that I would give the R36 another try based on recent positive reviews. I was surprised that it came with the latest firmware from Alfa (R36-1.2.0.7) dated 7/20/2011.I am pleased with the difference the current firmware makes. Connections are very stable and equally as fast as connecting the AWUS036H directly to a PC or Mac. (note: Alfa does not have AWUS036H drivers for OSX Lion, unless you boot into Lion in 32-bit mode). This makes using the R36 convenient for connecting from OSX Lion 64bit. I would recommend the R36 to anyone who wants to use it with the AWUS036H. Google "Data Alliance R36 easy setup". They have a setup guide that was very helpful. I bought my R36 through them. Alfa makes using my AWUS036H (1mW) with the R36 a great combination. Also, I found using the 7dBi panel antennas (by Alfa) made noticeable differences in download speeds and signal strength. UPDATE 10/4/11: I noticed that the range was only about 30 to 40 feet before connections started slowing down. But for a portable mobile extender it seems somewhat acceptable. I did have to occasionally restart the R36 to restore my connection. A bit finicky, but still much improved from a year ago. I tried using an 18dBi Yagi antenna on the Awus036h but performance was surprisingly worse than the 5dBi omni and 7dBi panel antennas. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: I'll second that first review This review is from: Alfa R36 NEWEST UPDATED VERSION 802.11 b,g,N Wireless-N Router For AWUS036H and 3G USB Mobile WiFi Router - You want to use more then one computer on your AWUS036H Longe Range Adapter? Connect the Alfa AWUS036H to the R36 router and you can share your connection with multiple users (AWUS036H NOT INCLUDED) (Electronics) Okay, I was looking for a product just like this one claimed to be, a router that used my AWUS036H and made it's signal a hot spot for other wireless devices in the house, but the reviews stunk so bad I never ordered it. Then one day a review talked about a firmware 1.2.0.6 dated May 23,2001. It said it fixed the problems and worked great. well.. I decided to order it. I set it up and couldn't download the firmware cause it kept dropping the connection so often. (just like the previous reviews said) I did a google search for the firmware file, and found it. Hooked the AWUS036H directly, downloaded the file, hooked up the R36 and flashed it. WOW!! kind of a pain to do, but it has worked flawlessly for me for about a month now. I love it!! it was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks alfa for getting your act together on this product. I'm very happy with this setup. In a nutshell, this product is worthless before the firmware upgrade, and it's GREAT!! after the upgrade once you finally accomplish the task. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Latest Firmware This review is from: Alfa R36 NEWEST UPDATED VERSION 802.11 b,g,N Wireless-N Router For AWUS036H and 3G USB Mobile WiFi Router - You want to use more then one computer on your AWUS036H Longe Range Adapter? Connect the Alfa AWUS036H to the R36 router and you can share your connection with multiple users (AWUS036H NOT INCLUDED) (Electronics) If using the latest firmware, dated at least May 23, 2011, the R36 works great. Most of the firmware has been re-written and the R36 + AWUS036H works as well together as the AWUS036H works with the PC/Mac. You need to get this latest firmware as it fixes a number of issue in the UI, as well as with the AWUS036H driver itself. Connections are stable and works at long range as we all hoped it would. Now you don't have to deal with drivers for the Mac and PC, and you can share the connection from the AWUS036H over WiFi. |
